Rita Marcotulli soon falls in love of the piano, the instrument which will study at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome. Composer and interpreter sophisticated, took its first steps approaching, at first to Brazilian music, before moving, at the age of twenty, to jazz.
In the early 80s is present on the music scene with the great roman musicians who now lead the Italian jazz. Frequent, in those years, see young Italian musicians which play alongside big international names passing through Italy.
That's how Rita engages alongside musicians such as Chet Baker, Steve Grossman, Peter Erskine, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Charlie Mariano, Tony Oxley, Michel Portal, Richard Galliano, Enrico Rava, Michel Benita, Aldo Romano, Kenny Wheeler , Bob Moses, Andy Sheppard.
After six years in Sweden, very important period for his artistic and stylistic maturity in the mid-90s returns to Italy and alternates jazz projects, like the one with the singer Maria Pia De Vito, to collaborations in the world of pop. It is particularly assiduous its presence in the formations of Pino Daniele, where she has the opportunity to play alongside Pat Metheny.
Author of a discography truly meaningful and winner of numerous awards and honors Rita Marcotulli also composes for film and for television. His, among the many productions, the soundtrack of the movie "Basilicata Coast to Coast" by Rocco Papaleo, for which she won, in 2010, the Ciak d'Oro Award for best original score and the prize of the film press, the Nastro D'Argento for best soundtrack and in 2011 the prestigious "David di Donatello" for best original score.
Dense also the list of collaborations with actors, actresses and writers, among them Stefano Benni, Alessandro Benvenuti, Chiara Caselli, Lella Costa and Franca Valeri.
In February 2013 she is a member of the jury of quality at the 63 edition of the Italian Song Festival in Sanremo conducted by Fabio Fazio and Luciana Litizzetto.
